Liquid Spout Pouch

A spout pouch is a kind of liquid packaging with a spout in the form of flexible packaging instead of hard packaging. The structure of the spout pouch is mainly divided into two parts: the spout and the stand-up pouch. The stand-up pouch part is a multi-layer composite plastic material that aims to meet the requirements of different food packaging properties and barrier properties. The biggest advantage of mouthpiece bags over other common forms of packaging is portability.

The spout pouch can be easily put into a backpack or even a pocket and can be reduced with the reduction of contents, more convenient to carry, compared with PET bottles, composite aluminum paper bags, and cans that are more environmentally friendly and lightweight. Now there is a single recyclable composite material low carbon manufacturing, which is the most ideal liquid packaging sustainable solution. Therefore, the spout pouch has unique application advantages in juice, dairy products, beverages, wine, jelly food, PET food, food additives, traditional Chinese medicine, laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, and liquid cosmetics.

First, the reasons for the flexible packaging of spout pouch instead of hard packaging

Spout pouches are more popular than hard packaging for the following reasons:

Low transportation cost – the nozzle bag is smaller and easier to transport than hard packaging, reducing transportation costs;

Lightweight and environmentally friendly – Spout pouch uses 60% less plastic than hard packaging;

Less waste of contents – taking out all contents from the suction bag accounts for more than 98% of the product, which is higher than the hard packaging;

Novel and unique – the Spout pouch can be made into any shape to make the product stand out in the display;

Better display – the Spout pouch has enough surface area to design and promote the brand logo for customers;

Lower Carbon emissions – The manufacturing process for the mouthpiece uses less energy, is more environmentally friendly and emits less carbon dioxide.

Spout pouches have many benefits for both manufacturers and retailers. For consumers, the screw cap of the spout pouch is resealable, so it is suitable for long-term, repeated use at the consumer end. The portability of the spout pouch makes it easy to carry and very convenient to carry for consumption. The spout pouch is more convenient to use than ordinary flexible packaging and is not easy to spill. The spout pouch is safe for children, with an anti-swallowing and choking spout mouth suitable for children’s and pets’ safe use. At present, there are sustainable single-material spout pouches that meet the requirements of 2025 environmental classification recycling packaging and carbon-neutral emission reduction targets.

Second, the material structure of the spout pouch The outermost layer of the spout pouch is directly printable material. The middle layer is the material for barrier protection, and the innermost layer is the heat-sealing layer, which can be heat-sealed into bags.

Common materials used to make spout pouches are PET, PA, MET-PA, MET-PET, Aluminum foil, CPP, PE, VMPET, etc. These materials have a variety of functions, depending on the product packaged in a spout pouch.

Aluminum foil cooking spout pouch: PET/AL/PA/RCPP;

Transparent high barrier: PET/PA/LLDPE;

Other structures: NY/PE, NY/CPP, PET/AL/NY/PE, etc

When selecting the material structure of the spout pouch, you can choose a metal (aluminum foil) composite or a non-metallic composite. The metal composite structure is opaque, so it provides better barrier protection than the non-metal composite structure, and the product’s shelf life is longer. The metal composite structure can make the appearance of the nozzle bag more shiny and stiff. The non-metallic composite structure has no higher hiding power than the metal composite structure and no bright aluminum foil metal. The printing and graphic effects of metal composite structures are better than those of non-metal composite structures. However, the metal composite material structure cannot be recycled, and non-metallic composite materials have recyclable materials, which is the direction of future development.

The current printing methods are:

  • Gravure printing: printing complex design images; standard product printing methods suitable for high-temperature sterilization Spout pouches. The cylinder fee is high, the MOQ is 10,000 pieces, and of course, the initial launch on the market, the quantity is small, but we can also support
  • Digital printing: the printing cost is high, but it saves the cost of plate making, which is suitable for small batch trial production of products at normal temperatures because the ink is a water-based ink that is not resistant to high temperatures, so high-temperature cooking is not recommended to use digital printing.

At present, the single-material recyclable spout pouch PE/PE multi-layer composite structure, the spout selection of PE nozzles, and a single-material packaging are easy to classify and recycle to achieve sustainable recycling packaging solutions in line with the international recycling standard Class 4 LDPE classification.
